Dental Implants

At Nottingham Smiles we are delighted to be able to offer what is an advanced form of dentistry to our patients in the form of dental implants. The dental implant procedure can be a very easy and pain-free one for patients, providing they have the correct bone structure available, and is one of the best treatments available if you have teeth missing.

The procedure will typically involve:

• Initially, it will be assessed as to whether you are suitable for implant treatment
• The dentist will then begin the procedure by drilling a hole into the jaw socket (where the root is)
• A titanium implant is screwed into the socket and will be made secure
• The gum is sealed over and then left to heal for a few months in most cases and a temporary bridge is set in place
• When the second visit is made the dentist will then make sure that the gums have properly healed and that the implant infusion was a success
• If all goes well your new crown/bridge/denture will be placed

A dental implant offers a permanent solution to missing teeth but whether you need a single or multiple implants depends on your bone and gum structure and the number of missing teeth.

If you have poor surrounding bone structure due to periodontal disease or trauma then you are most likely going to be unable to have the treatment as it would most likely fail. In some cases patients will need to undergo treatment such as a bone graft but this can be discusses with one of our resident dentists.
