Crowns & Bridges
Dental Crowns and Bridges can come in many different shapes/sizes and materials.
Crowns - Crowns are used for many different dental issues, including:
- To replace unsightly amalgam fillings
- To add protection to a root canal
- To act as an alternative to dental implants
- To add protection to cracked/chipped/broken teeth.
Dental crowns act as a 'cap', as a means to provide protection for the remainder of a tooth and to improve the aesthetics of a smile. A simple procedure is used when placing the crown and the appliance is custom-made to fall right in place with the rest of your surrounding teeth, thus making sure your smile looks natural.
Dental crowns can be made from different types of material, depending on what results you are looking for. The materials can range from porcelain, to precious metals such as gold.
Bridges - Bridges are used for cases in which one or more teeth are missing and need replacing. As their name implies dental bridges act as a bridge by anchoring onto neighbouring teeth for support and stability. Often, missing teeth can change the bite and appearance of your face, and can also lead to tooth crookedness and gaps as your other teeth move into the available space. A dental bridge can stop all of this from happening and is a long-lasting solution to your missing teeth worries.
As with crowns, bridges are made from various materials. The procedure is slightly more complex as it entails your neighbouring teeth being filed down to make room for the bridge. Anaesthetic can be used to make sure you are comfortable during the treatment, and you are free to voice any concerns you may have about the treatment. Our friendly team here at Nottingham Smiles are always happy to listen.
