Botox
Botox is an increasingly common, non-invasive cosmetic surgery procedure that can be used to get rid of frown lines and wrinkles on the face and around the mouth. The whole treatment usually only takes around an hour, with no recovery time or check-ups necessary, letting you get on with your life while looking fabulous. You may even be able to get lunchtime appointments so you can be back at your desk after treatment.
Who can perform Botox treatment?
Only medical professionals who have undergone the necessary training can give Botox injections, so you should take care not to have the procedure carried out at clinics where there is not proper training - the team at Nottingham Smiles are highly experienced with this facial aesthetics treatment. We have chosen to offer this treatment so that patients who have spent money on improving their smile can complete their look by improving the appearance of their skin too.
What does Botox treatment involve?
The treatment itself involves applying anaesthetic cream to the area to be treated, before the dentist or nurse will inject the required amounts of Botox into the skin using tiny needles. Botox treatment is not painful, though it might cause some discomfort.
The improvement can be surprisingly quick and dramatic, and the effects can last up to around six months. Once you have decided to go ahead with Botox you can have the treatment straight away as no "test patch" is required and allergic reactions are very rare.
Botox actually works by blocking the impulses from the nerves to the facial muscles, temporarily relaxing them and smoothing out the wrinkles, though normal facial expressions will remain unaffected. You may decide to continue with Botox treatment after the effects of the initial injection has worn off, and there is no indication that repeated treatments can be damaging, though you should not have any medication too often.
